Gene Zarro

"It's really important that we guide our planning by the needs of the people and not by the convenience of the infrastructure that's already in place. That's not planning, that's convenience. "

- Gene Zarro

Kimokeo Kapahulehua

"We need to learn from the past so we can continue to walk forward. "

- Kimokeo Kapahulehua

Each week our show's special guests share memories and values of the small towns we love. Listeners can call in to help explore how we can learn from Maui's past to create a better future.

This radio show has deepened our appreciation for the important role of small towns to our island way of life. The update of the Maui Island Plan will decide if we maintain our small town and rural community lifestyle or if we will continue to grow with increased sprawl and large scale urbanism.

BREAKING NEWS!

The Maui County Council has acted to extend the time period to March 1, 2009, for the General Plan Advisory Council (GPAC) to complete its recommendations on how to manage Maui's growth to the year 2030 and on the establishment of urban and rural growth boundaries.

This provides additional time for public comment on the proposed Maui Island Plan and for a careful review of land use, cultural, population, social and other aspects of the current draft general plan put forth by the Planning Department.
